It is recommended that travelers arrive in the terminal approximately 90 minutes prior to departure, although, two hours prior is prudent during peak travel periods. In addition, most airlines have a required bag check of 30-45 minutes prior to departure. With the new security checkpoint procedures and other screening measures in place, passengers should allow adequate time for security checks.

Airline-issued boarding passes are required for all passengers traveling through security checkpoints. Additionally, all passengers age 18 and older are required to carry valid government-issued photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport.

Recently, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued new procedures for screening passengers passing through security checkpoints. Prepare to remove shoes, coats and outer garments and place in a tray along with your purse, backpack, etc. If you have one, you also must remove your one quart-sized, zip-top bag of liquid, gel or aerosol products from your carry-on bag and place it in a bin to be screened. TSA provides a complete list of permitted and prohibited items allowed through security checkpoints at www.tsa.gov.

According to TSA, you may be allowed to do the following: consult with the airlines for assistance in placing the prohibited item in checked baggage; withdraw with the item from the screening checkpoint; make other arrangements for the item, such as taking it to the car; or, voluntarily abandon the item. Items that are voluntarily abandoned cannot be recovered and will not be returned to you.

The airport provides a wide range of parking options in the hourly, daily, economy, and valet lots. The lowest everyday rate is offered in the economy lots at $7/day. RIC offers a variety of services for business travelers including free access and usage of Wireless Internet (WiFi) throughout the terminal building and a Business Center, with private work areas and free WiFi and Ethernet LAN internet access.

RIC provides services for passengers with special needs including ramps, elevators, and wheelchair accessible EasyPark® shuttles. With proper documentation from your airline’s ticket counter, passengers with special needs may be escorted by a non-traveling friend or family member to their departure gate. Similarly, unaccompanied minors may be met at their arrival gate by one authorized adult who has received proper documentation from the airline ticket counter. Passengers should refer to RIC’s Customers with Disabilities page and the TSA website for specific information regarding traveling with medical supplies and equipment.

Lost and found items are handled by RIC's Badging Office, located on the lower level of the terminal building. The office is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The airport will hold unclaimed property for a maximum of 60 days.
