RIC Orange Travel Advisory (updated)

Update 1: TSA Adjusts Prohibited/Permitted List - Small Doses of Liquid Medication, Low Blood Sugar Treatments, Baby Food and Lipstick Now OK per TSA

Richmond International Airport, VA, August 14, 2006: Over the weekend, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) adjusted its permitted/prohibited items list for carry on articles as follows:

Permitted Items:

  • Baby formula/milk and baby food in small containers if a baby or small child is traveling.
  • Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket.
  • Essential other non-prescription medicines not to exceed 4 ounces (120ml) per container.
  • Liquids or gels for diabetic passengers who indicate a need for such items to address their medical condition. Quantities are limited to no more than 8 ounces (240ml) per container.
  • Solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items such as lipstick in a tube, solid deodorant, lip balm, and similar solids.
These Items Remain Prohibited in Carry-On Luggage:
  • Liquids, gels, or aerosols of any size, including beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, hair spray, liquid cosmetics, and other similar items.
  • Such items may be transported in checked baggage.

Answers to Other Frequently-Asked Questions

  • Airport Arrival Time: At Richmond international Airport (RIC), plan to arrive in the terminal building about two hours prior to departure to allow sufficient time for check in and security checkpoint clearance.
  • Consumer Electronics: Customers may carry on cell phones, PDAs, iPods, laptops and similar electronic devices.
  • Shoes: TSA will also now require all passengers to remove their shoes so they may be X-rayed with their carry-on bags to enhance efficiency in the screening process and eliminate confusion for travelers.
  • K-9: The airport may periodically deploy K-9 teams to sweep sensitive areas.
