Tarmac Delay Plan

Occasionally, aircraft may be diverted to Richmond (RIC) or delayed for departure for extended periods for reasons that could include high traffic volumes or inclement weather.

To assist customers, RIC has developed a Tarmac Delay Plan as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), outlining the airport’s role during periods of excessive delays. The purpose of this plan is to establish a partnership between the Capital Region Airport Commission, passenger airlines at RIC, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), concession operators, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), US Customs, and ground support service providers to assist the passenger airlines that serve RIC or divert to RIC in the event a flight becomes delayed for any reason and passengers are on-board the aircraft for long periods of time.
