Community Outreach

The airport's commitment to supplier diversity is a priority for RIC president and CEO Jon Mathiasen. A former member of the Diversity Committee of the International Association of Airport Executives, Mathiasen takes a hands-on role in diversity awareness training for management staff and ensures that the airport honors its policies with every program.

To recognize the airport's commitment to community outreach related to supplier diversity, the Metropolitan Business League of Richmond awarded the Capital Region Airport Commission the 2012 Vision of Excellence Award. The award recognizes businesses that promote economic prosperity in Virginia through leadership, education, training and advocacy for small, women-owned minority-owned businesses.

The Commission also received a 2013 Airport Minority Advisory Council “Award of the Organization – Regional Airports” that recognized the airport’s efforts to enable DBEs and other small enterprises to participate in highly competitive business opportunities. Those opportunities ranged from runway lighting and paving to major concessions, ground transportation and master planning, as well as a wide range of goods and services that support the airport’s daily activities.
