Small Aircraft Landing Incident (UPDATE)

No Injuries, Minor Aircraft Damage; All Runways Open

July 22, 2010

RICHMOND, Virginia (July 22, 2010) - At approximately 2:00PM EDT, a small single-engine aircraft, a Beechcraft BE35, landed at RIC on Runway 2 with an issue that apparently led to the landing gear becoming disengaged.  With the collapsed landing gear, the aircraft skidded 584' before coming to a rest just off the side of the runway.

One person – the pilot – was onboard and did not sustain injuries. Per the Virginia State Police, he has been identified as John J. Peedin of Littleton, NC. The aircraft itself sustained relatively minor damage and has been relocated away from movement areas at the field.

RWY 2/20 has been inspected and reopened as of 6:00PM EDT, meaning all three runways at RIC are again fully operational.

First responders included RIC Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF), Richmond Airport Police, Virginia State Police & FAA Flight Standards personnel.
